R&B/contemporary jazz vocalist G John Martin, born in Detroit, Michigan, USA, is an artist who personifies art with unified melodies manifested with balance, life and wisdom. Martin's musical journey began with the discovery of the bass guitar at the age of seven. By age twelve, he was writing and producing his own and formed a local band. Additionally, he taught himself drums and guitar before developing a unique vocal style that would mark the beginning of his musical career.

Martin's professional journey began at age eleven during a visit to Hollywood. He quickly caught the ear of performer James Mitchell of the "Detroit Emeralds," who offered him a role in the development of musical pieces for several projects including his first tour. With Mitchell's encouragement, Martin quickly moved to study music and began what would become a long history of music production with groups like 7 Mile under the Sony label. World tours would also include the likes of Earl Klugh/George Benson, After 7, Clark Sisters, Universal Nubian Voices (UNV) opening the "The Madonna Girlie Tour" and Japan's Speed, Anri, Yuki Kokanagi and Ken Hirai, just to name a few.

Within the next ten years, G John Martin felt the pressures and practices of the music business overshadowed his passion of music. Deciding he would no longer work under the influences of corporate ideals and demands, he chose to quiet himself, find spiritual solace and honor his soul. This led him to Japan, a culture based on divination and order. Martin transformed his career into a company venture - JP Entertainment & Nitram Records.

"My life is music. I was a singer when I was born and remain a singer today," said Martin.

The self-titled CD, Black Ice, marks the solo debut for this R&B singer. The CD is available for sale in Japan and world-wide via CDBaby.com.

Vibist Dirk Richter’s story is about discovery and passion. Before Dirk was even old enough to go to school, he was hanging out at the local music store. At the tender age of four, Dirk was intensely studying music on a daily basis. By the time he was five, Dirk was gigging as a sideman with other youngsters in a band called the Tax Exemptions.

Influenced by Jean Luc Ponty, Jeff Lorber, George Duke and Lionel Hampton (because of swing music), Dirk became a serious mallet player by the age of eight. After high school, he studied at Pasadena City College w/Gary Foster (who had a Monday night big band), thoroughly immersing himself in the local Pasadena jazz scene.

It was in Pasadena that Dirk would meet his future partner in songwriting crime, Randall Crissman, a guitar playing television and movie composer with a string of credits that includes the likes of MTV, CBS, FOX and Nickelodeon for shows like Oprah, Dancing with the Stars, Joe Millionaire, Access Hollywood and The View.

Together, they would pen their first album, Vibes Alive (1997-Syndrome Records), which featured the stellar cast of Jeff Lorber, Luis Conte, Jimmy Johnson, Jimmy Haslip and Carlos Vega. Jonathan Widran of All Music Guide would declare, “…Richter takes charge, carrying cool melodies atop those trademark Lorber rhythms and harmonies on 70's throwbacks like the Hammond B-3 and the Wurlitzer Electric piano.”

Moorestown, NJ/July 24, 2008

nuGroove Records President David Chackler discovered genius keyboardist\producer, Nate Harasim over a year ago, after listening to Nate’s self produced debut release, Next in Line.

Impressed by his unique ability to create memorable, funky rhythms, he believed that Nate could become one of the top artist\producers in the contemporary jazz genre. In early 2007, Chackler signed Nate Harasim to nuGroove and began developing his talents. He hooked Nate up with other nuGroove talents such as Jay Soto, and hit-making producer/artist Darren Rahn among others. Thriving in this atmosphere, Nate rose to the challenge, and within a very short time was ready to produce his second CD, entitled Love’s Taken Over.

During this same period, Chackler had been developing the very talented singer\songwriter Deborah Connors. Deborah was one of the top vocal coaches in Chicago, and had been producing and writing jingles, commercials, and songs for film and TV shows. Deborah was a veteran of the Chicago music scene and had worked at the legendary Chicago Trax Recording Studios with talents such as R Kelly, Ministry’s Al Jorgenson, George Harrison, Liz Phair, Trent Reznor, as well as some of the great Chicago House artists such as Farley “Jackmaster Funk”and Joe Smooth, among others. Deborah had honed her talents with these superstars while recording two of her own albums, doing commercials and producing her own dance music album, Midnight Affair. After writing and co-producing her own music with writer/producer, Michael Powell in Chicago, Chackler felt she was ready as a soloist; he was just waiting for the perfect partner with whom she could produce and create.

Enter, Nate Harasim, who was in the midst of creating his Love’s Taken Over album, and was in need of a vocalist with a very unique sound to add to one of his tracks, “Feel the Love.” It was a match made in heaven…Chackler recommended that Nate connect with Deborah, and the rest is history. “Feel the Love” was the beginning of the new De’Nate’ sound. The track received great attention at radio, and was hailed by format stalwarts Carol Archer of Radio and Records Magazine, and Sandy Shore of Smoothjazz.com as “a hit” and “one of the best smooth jazz tracks of 2008."

Never one to miss an opportunity, Chackler asked Harasim and Connors to team up and record a new album together for nuGroove, an album which would combine their singular talents, and create a new sound to invigorate the contemporary jazz format, as well as R&B, soul and even pop. The combination of Deborah Connors uniquely intricate vocal styling’s, on top of Nate’s incredibly haunting rhythms became Reminisce.

Reminisce will be available at all U.S. retail and e-commerce locations on August 19, 2008…don’t miss the experience.

David Buchbinder
Album: Odessa/Havana
Label: Tzadik Records
Release Date: November 20, 2007
Website: www.davidbuchbinder.ca

Trumpet/flugelhorn player David Buchbinder and classical jazz pianist Hilario Duran show that the union of Klezmer/Sephardic jazz and Latin music is a marriage that beams with joy for musicians and audiences alike. The duo’s latest collaboration Odessa/Havana, which is produced by the band’s bass player Roberto Occhipinti, crafts a fusion of traditional music from North Africa, South America, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East making Odessa/Havana into an expressive form of cultural arts. The album is much more than an academic study of cultural music, the songs move audiences through customary Jewish dance patterns, emotive laments and soulful phrasing juxtaposed by lines of Afro-Cuban rhythms and Latin jazz wonderment. The song “Cadiz” is emblematic of a beautiful Jewish-influenced melody, and “Rumba Judia” pulls out all the stops on the excitement that Cuban jazz stirs. The compilation is made up of compositions written by Buchbinder and some written by Duran, and then there is one track “Colaboracion” which is written by both that creates an epicenter of charming nightclub jazz revelry. Taking its name from the seaport of Odessa located along the Black Sea in the Ukraine and the Cuban city of Havana, Odessa Havana has figuratively brought together these two homesteads and made the album a virtual metropolis.

One of England's newest bands to emerge from its pop/rock homestead is the quintet Ben's Brother whose latest full-length album Beta Male Fairytales is cot with softley brushed vocal strokes by lead singer Jamie Hartman and nicely wreathe melodic kilts made by keyboardist Kiris Houston, guitarist Tim Vanderkuil, bassist Dan McKinna, and drummer Dave Hatte. Produced by Martin Terefe (KT Tunstall, Tristan Prettyman), Beta Male Fairytales embodies new classic rock and blue-eyed soul with the gentle sensibilities of Michael McDonald and the esthetics trappings of Lifehouse. The melodic patterns have curvaceous cuffs bottlenecked in breakdowns, buildups, and spots of harmonica solos performed by Hartman. The segments are beautifully sutured and caramelize with Hartman's vocals to a solid stock. Chord progressions curl loosely and move evenly with complete control placed in the band's hands. Tracks like "Beauty Queen," "Find Me An Angel," and "Home" have melodic hooks that instantly connect with the listener. The song "Kiss Me Again," dubbed the "stuttering song," is penetrating both sonically and lyrically piping with emotion in verses like: "I feel so unsexy / So maybe I'll just keep my mouth shut / At least until you kiss me / So Kiss me again / Coz only you can stop the st-st-st-stuttering." The songs mechanisms have sleek rivulets, polished transitions, a cruising momentum, and a light hammering in the rhythms like the pitter-patter of a beating heart as the lyrics tell what happens when two people decide to mate. The album has the appeal of John Mayer's music and makes you want to say, "That was nice," when it is done. Like Mayer's albums, Ben's Brother's records never loses it touch to elevate one's mood. Its gravitational pull is perennial."

- Susan Frances, 2008

Your Vegas
Album: A Town And Two Cities
Label: Universal Republic Records
Release Date: April 29, 2008
Website: www.yourvegasmusic.com

Great Britain has a reputation for being infallible when it comes to bringing the world impressive rock bands, and the country has done it once again with Your Vegas. Though Your Vegas recorded their debut full-length album A Town And Two Cities in New York City and take their name from the American casino world of Las Vegas, the band members are from the countryside of Leeds, England. Their debut effort is dreamy with full-body arrangements that resound at the level of early U2 and the chilling sonic imagery of The Killers. There is a modern new wave vibe in their songs that radiate of astonishing synth-textured flames and stylish melodic splashes. Produced by David Bendeth, A Town And Two Cities is capable of consuming whole cities in the way that early Duran Duran managed through the ‘80s. Your Vegas creates a big sound while maintaining elevated lines and striking melodic sensibilities. From the beginning, the band hooks in their audience with cascading riffs and gentle tumbling rhythms through “It Makes My Heart Break” and “In My Head.” The melodic transitions are skillfully handled with care bearing a likeness to the Editors. But where the Editors show a predilection for dark shadows, Your Vegas veer towards the light heralding optimism in their ethers with a reminiscence to Scotland’s Big Country. The heavy heart of “The Way The War Was Won” has a rugged pounding, and the sonic luster of “Salvador” is aurally mystifying. Though the songs have a monogamous consistency, the album is never boring. It is like being surrounded in a field of honeysuckles. Their beauty alone enthralls the listeners so completely that they don’t crave for a wider variety.
